Aims and Objectives
In this project, we have produced a compilation of 7 self-composed English songs in a music CD. Through this project, we hope to raise funds for the Dyslexia Association of Singapore by donating the proceeds from the sale of our music CDs. The CDs will be sold throughout various schools and by doing so we are hoping to raise the awareness of the general youth public about this charity organization, and also to help the children through our fundraising activities.
The Dyslexic Association of Singapore (DAS)
The Dyslexic Association of Singapore is an organization whose vision is 'Helping Dyslexic People Achieve', reaching out to almost 1100 children who have dyslexia.
According to a financial report of DAS, they have received a total of $5,403,000 for expenditure in 2008, using about $5,000,000 each year for their expenses.
We have therefore chosen them as our charitable organization and would work to raise awareness of this society as well as raise funds as contributions.
Our project
We chose to produce a CD Compilation as it is easily marketable in the youth market, as a majority of the youth these days like music, especially albums of idols. We feel that it is an easier way to connect with our intended audience, for songs have been an age-old method of portraying social scenes and conveying messages to a wide public. Each CD would be sold for SGD$12.
Our compilation would be different and unique in the sense that it
- Would combine a variety of genres: pop, alternative, rock, etc.
- Is based on differing themes which reflect many faces of our current society (songs have been an age-old method of portraying social scenes and conveying messages to a wide public)
- Contains tracks which are all originally composed; inclusive of melody and lyric
- Will feature popular music genres, so as to appeal to the younger generation, i.e. teenagers
- Will sport an attractive cover and packaging, along with a widely affordable price. We will design the packaging ourselves, and will improve it based on comments from mentors
Our mentors
Our mentors for the production of our music album are Sri Sulistra, who has written many songs in her particular field. She has produced sountracks for events like !Noise Singapore as well. We are also working closely with arranger, Melvyn, who is hired by Lee Wei Song as an arranger and song writer. He gives us comments for our creation of the songs as well as more input, arranging weak tunes to strong melodies. These mentorships would thus ensure that the songs we are producing would be of good quality, with the help of professional expertise from the field.
Current Stage of the Project
These are the completed aspects of the project:
- 7 songs out of 15 songs composed by ourselves have been chosen to be included in the album.
- The demos of these 7 songs is going to be recorded and sent to arrangers like Melvyn to be worked on within a period of a month
- We are trying to get celebrity singers to be engaged to feature in our album. Jay Lim, top 10 of Singapore Idol Season I, has also been featured in the song "Missin' You"
- All the songs have been recorded.
- After recording, CD sent to MicroWorks Technology for printing
- Lyric booklets of the CD sent to AVD Technology for printing
